Who We Are
Our Parish
We are a range of ages, from young children to retirees brought together by our desire to live as Christians. As Episcopalians, we are guided in our worship by the Book of Common Prayer. As Christians, we seek to deepen our connection with God through discipleship recognizing that we are all at different point in that journey.
We invite you to join us wherever you are.
Believe Out Loud
We are currently in the process of becoming a Believe Out Loud congregation. We have just finished a six part Teachings, Reflections & Discussion program addressing questions raised by the congregation.
Parish Organization
The Stewardship Team organizes the annual appeal for the financial support necessary to sustain the parish. This group meets once a month.
The Finance Committee reviews the monthly financial reports and prepares the annual budget recommendations for the Vestry.
The Endowment Committee reviews the long-term investments of the parish and recommends to the Vestry any changes in management of these funds.
Fixers and Tenders assist in maintaining the property and the building. They meet on the third Saturday of the month at 8:30 a.m. and individuals assist as needed on special projects.
The Community Presence Committee
These groups support the work of the Vestry. If you would like to assist with this work, please contact the church office.
A Brief History
The population of Arvada was about 5,000 when Christ the King was founded in 1956. Our first services were held in a local school and later at the Grange Hall, the Festival Playhouse for many years in Old Town Arvada. We were organized as a mission and named The Chapel of Christ the King. Land was purchased at our current address in 1956, and a Quonset hut on the property was used for weekday services and a summer vacation church school.
Ground breaking for the new church building and parish hall was in February 1960, and the building was dedicated the following September. We were granted parish status in May of 1962 as The Church of Christ the King (Episcopal).
The building has grown and changed as has the city we serve. In 1964 a nursery and office were added to the lower level of the building. The parish was remodeled in 1992 to enclose the kitchen and create three new rooms. A building campaign in 1999 enabled us to build our current narthex and worship space and remodel the original worship space into classrooms. The building and worship space we enjoy today was dedicated in 2002.
