growing in faith
adults
Christ the King offers several different programs for adults. Throughout the year, a variety of short courses may be presented focusing on different topics including Bible studies, spiritual practices, personal growth, information for newcomers, and preparation for confirmation.
Two groups meet on a regular basis throughout the year; for additional information about meeting times, please check our events schedule.
Weekday Bible Study
The Bible Study group, led by Rev. Austin, meets weekly on Tuesdays at 12:30 p.m. in person and on Zoom. We are currently reading and discussing the Book of Job. Our practice is to share in reading the text, spend a few minutes on the historical context, and then talk about how it connects with our lives today. No preparation is necessary; bring a Bible and come in person or join the Zoom meeting.
Please contact the church office at office@ctkarvada.org if you would like to join by Zoom.
CTK Book club
We meet on Thursdays at 3:15 p.m. on Zoom.
We are reading and discussing Accidental Saints: Finding God in All the Wrong People by Nadia Bolz-Weber. All are welcome.
Please contact the church office if you would like to join in.
Daughters of the King
The Esther-Macrina Chapter of the Daughters of the King (DOK) was formed in 2000. We support a Haitian child monthly through Locally Haiti and donate to the open plate offering each month from our free-will offering.
A new Weekly Prayer List is sent out each Sunday evening, which is prayed every day by each Daughter of the King. The Colorado Diocesan Assembly of Daughters of the King has been having quarterly Zoom meetings.
retreats
For Newcomers, two or three times throughout the year, a one-day retreat may be offered to newcomers to Christ the King. Gathering with our newcomers offers them a chance ask questions about Christ the King and gives CTK members an opportunity to hear some different perspectives on how we can be God’s people together.
youth
godly play (Temporarily unavailable)
Godly Play is offered as a way to prepare children for full participation in worship. It is a way to help children, ages 3 to 7, to experience and worship God. Led by a trained adult, Godly Play introduces children to sacred space, prayer, ritual actions, and the stories of the Bible in ways that are appropriate to their age.
The time for Godly Play is divided into three segments: worship, storytelling and response through wondering and art.
At various points, the leader invites children to reflect on what they have seen and heard by asking questions that begin, “I wonder ….” Children are also given time and art materials to express what they may not be able to verbalize.
If you would like to assist in leading Godly Play, please contact the church office.
Youth ministry
We are in the process of redefining our youth ministry to better meet the needs of each young person. the Rector will meet with each youth and their parent(s) to work out an individual formation path.
Our young people have a wide range of interests and schedules, making it difficult for a “one-size-fits-all” program. We are looking for ways to meet their varied needs for Christian formation in a manner that affirms their unique gifts and includes other adults in guiding them.
We will, upon occasion have events that all of our youth participate in as a group, but most of their formation will be with others in the church community who agree to walk with them.
